Community Outreach

Buying Bicycles for Vietnam

Demonstrating their commitment to sustainability and to the community in which they live and work, our people in Vietnam contributed funds to the Humanitarian Services for Children of Vietnam.

More than 50 bicycles were purchased and given to needy Vietnamese children to help them and their families in their daily lives.

“Making a Difference” in the UK

To consolidate, coordinate and then communicate our full range of community service activities in the UK, we developed the “Making a Difference” umbrella identity.

Areas ranging from charity partnerships and volunteering opportunities, to matching payroll giving and support of Pro Help London, are grouped under the “Making a Difference” banner.

Developing Culinary Skills – and New Pastry Chefs – in Cambodia

Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels has developed a unique partnership with the Shinta Mani Institute of Hospitality in Cambodia.

Shinta Mani was established in 2005 to help eliminate poverty in the region surrounding Siem Reap. The organization provides free hospitality industry training for young Cambodians, creating practical opportunities for individuals to move themselves and their families out of poverty.

In October, 2007, the firm contributed funds that enabled the Institute to expand its western culinary course to include a pastry section.

Students are now able to learn a new set of culinary skills. They also operate a small bakery shop at a local market to sell the products they make. Sales proceeds help fund the school’s ongoing operations.

Touching the lives of students directly, while helping to develop the Cambodian hospitality industry, made the program particularly attractive for our Hotels team.

Investing in Sustainability in India

Community service and sustainability played a central role in a series of 2007 “road shows” in India. Senior Asia Pacific management joined local leaders of  Jones Lang LaSalle Meghraj to share strategies and growth plans with employees in Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai in October and November.

The first session, in Delhi, was held at the Udayan Trust Orphanage in Gurgaon. Following presentations on strategy and sustainability, the firm donated funds to the orphanage for the installation of a rainwater harvesting and compost manufacturing  facility.

Next the road show traveled to Chennai, where the main session was held at Life Help Centre for the Handicapped.

The tour’s final stop, in Bangalore, took the group to Adobe Parikama, a humanitarian foundation that works to help educate underprivileged children.

Partnering with a High School’s Corporate Internship Program

In Chicago, we partner with Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in the school’s Corporate Internship Program.

Four Cristo Rey students share one full-time job in our office for a year. Each student works with us five days a month to gain job skills and experience working in a business environment.

Contributing to ProHelp London

Jones Lang LaSalle is a member of ProHelp London, a network of 1,000 professional firms whose volunteers donate time and expertise to community groups and voluntary organizations.

ProHelp members donate approximately £5 million annually to fund long-term partnerships and individual projects.

Contributing to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund

Following the shootings at Virginia Tech University in 2007, employees in our Washington, D.C. office made gifts to the Hokie Spirit Memorial fund.

Participation spread quickly throughout the Americas, and through our Employee Matching Gift program, combined gifts totaled nearly $10,000.

Sponsoring Outreach by Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre

In London we maintain a charitable sponsorship agreement with Shakespeare's Globe theatre.

The theatre works with schools in the South London area, where many students come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Our sponsorship supports a project in which tutors work with young people to produce a Shakespeare play, providing an opportunity to build confidence and develop presentation skills which will benefit them in the future.

Supporting Chicago’s 2016 Olympics Bid

In 2006, we agreed to provide pro bono real estate advisory services to the Chicago 2016 Olympic Bid Committee.

We advised the committee on key aspects of the selection process, including issues related to sports venues and the Olympic Village.

Our contributions were rewarded when the United States Olympic Committee named Chicago as its candidate to host the 2016 games. We continue to work with the Chicago Committee as the international selection process continues.

Backing World-Class Athletes

Soon after our UK colleagues entered into a sponsorship agreement with rower Alan Campbell in 2007, Britain’s leading single sculler returned the favor. Campbell won the Diamond Challenge Sculls at Henley Royal Regatta, defeating the current world champion in the process.

Named Champion of the Thames 2006/2007 after winning the Wingfield Sculls, the world’s oldest sculling race, Campbell will represent Great Britain in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Our colleagues in Belgium have entered into a similar sponsorship relationship with Olympic sprint hopeful, Olivia Borlée, following several years of supporting her training program.

Borlée subsequently won a Bronze medal as a member of Belgium’s 4x100 relay team at the 2007 World Athletics Championship in Japan.
